UMC Architects were appointed as architects by Graftongate Developments and Samworth Brothers Supply Chain in late 2015, for the design of the base-build and fit-out of this new facility.
Following a successful planning consent co-ordinated by UMC, work started on site in October 2016 with Winvic Construction being awarded the contract. It is the first building on the new Leicester Distribution Park, a site owned by Blackrock Investment Management.
The new facility consists of a number of differing temperature chambers providing various levels of chilled and frozen storage for a range of meat and vegetable products. At 15m clear internally, the 190,000sqft building accommodates cross-docking and a 3-storey office and welfare block. External facilities include a vehicle fuel and wash and a stand-alone vehicle maintenance unit.
Construction of the facility was achieved in accordance with proposed budget and timescales.
