Appointed by Stoford Developments and Oxenwood Real Estate, UMC Architects were tasked with undertaking the architectural design of a new industrial unit at the site of a former Carlsberg Brewery depot in Wigan. The site is located on Yew Tree Way Golborne and sits within the wider Stone Cross employment area, which extends to approximately 32 hectares. The building is well connected to the surrounding highway network being situated adjacent to the A580 East Lancashire Road and approximately two miles from junction 23 of the M6.

Granted planning approval by Wigan Borough Council in May 2019, Stone Cross 72 comprises a new-build, 72,740sqft Grade A facility on the residual balance of land to the south of the existing building. The unit includes inboard mezzanine offices, a clear internal height of 12.5m, 50kN/m² warehouse floor loading, an external service yard serving 6 dock leveller doors / 1 level access door, car parking and cycle storage facilities.

UMC Architects supported main contractor GMI Construction throughout the detailed design and construction phases of the project.
