IONOS, Worcester 6 Business Park

The bespoke datacentre unit for IONOS is the 7th building to be developed at the Worcester Six Business Park, formerly known as Worcester Technology Park to the east of the M5, south of Junction 6. The design incorporates enhanced security and fire considerations as well as coordination of the duct / cable penetrations through the external facade.

UMC Architects were appointed by Stoford Properties Ltd and IONOS to provide the initial concept designs for the planning and tender phases and were later novated to support Main Contractor Benniman Construction Ltd throughout the Construction and Detailed Design stages.

IONOS, the leading European digitalisation partner for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB), and its UK subsidiary, Fasthosts, have secured Tier IV certification from the Uptime Institute, for their £21M state-of-the-art data centre, situated at Worcester Six Business Park.

As an independent third-party, the Uptime Institute’s tiering is one of the most recognised standards for datacentre reliability and performance. It has four distinct levels with ‘Tier IV’ being the highest. Any datacentre in this category possesses fully redundant infrastructures and offer the least anticipated downtime or best performance because of fault tolerance, compared to other tiers. Most Tier IV data centers are run by banks or other organisations with highly sensitive data.

“We are very proud that our Worcester site is the only Tier IV constructed datacentre facility publicly listed by Uptime Institute in the UK,” says Markus Noga, Chief Technology Officer of IONOS. “It’s our most modern and environmentally friendly IONOS datacentre yet, and for it to have the highest level of certification is a remarkable achievement, which represents our ongoing commitment to excellence. In terms of security and availability, Worcester will be a blueprint for our future datacentres.”
