The provision of over 80,000 sqft of studio space, shared between these four soundstages, represents significant investment in the Welsh Film and Television Studio market; building upon the previous significant successes of the existing four stage studio facility with the BBC, HBO and Netflix all having previously filmed on site.

As Project Architect, UMC will be responsible for the development and delivery of the design intent originally established by ARUP, as part of a multi-disciplinary team assisting BAM Construction as Main Contractor.

Green roofs, introduced as part of the mitigation measures to protect the valuable flora and fauna currently found on site, as well as to act as natural on-site drainage attenuation, provide visual indications of the targeted sustainability credentials of the project, with BREAAM ‘Excellent’ targeted as well as consideration given to enhancing adjacent species poor grassland habitat in support of the local shrill carder bee colony.

UMC are particularly pleased to be able to take this as an opportunity to build upon our own most recent success within this sector, following on from our involvement in the soon to be completed Sky Studios project, Elstree. A £200 million shot in the arm to reinvigorate an area steeped in the history of British film and TV, this state of the art development represented UMC’s first foray into Film and Television Production facilities; a move to be built upon when the Seren Studios project hits the ground in early 2023.
