Takeoff for new Gatwick Airport fulfilment centre

UMC Architects are delighted to see construction works underway at the new 100,000sqft build-to-suit industrial unit at St Modwen Park, Gatwick in Copthorne. The facility, which was pre-let to Gatwick Airport Limited in September 2019, is the first phase of development at the scheme, located just one junction south from the neighbouring airport along the M23. St. Modwen is planning further speculative development at the site with an additional planning application due for submission in 2020.

Phase 1 of St. Modwen’s new logistics hub which will act as a fulfilment centre for its airside goods, is expected to be ready for Gatwick Airport Limited to occupy in September.

The cross-docked unit will feature 14 dock level loading doors, nearly 20,000 sq ft of office space and a 50m yard depth, all necessary to provide Gatwick Airport with significantly improved efficiency and handling times.

Strategically located adjacent to Junction 10 of the M23, serving both Gatwick and Crawley, the Copthorne site also has easy access to the M25 and the South Coast. The wider scheme is expected to help meet employment demand for the industrial and logistics sector across the region.

Having supported St Modwen with the initial feasibility masterplanning of the scheme, UMC Architects have been appointed to undertake the detailed Architectural design throughout the construction phases of the project alongside Main Contractor Readie Construction.
